It’s very exciting to anticipate what the real Caldecott Committee will choose for the 2020 Medal and Honor books when they convene in Philadelphia in January. In the meantime, here are the beautiful books my Simmons University students chose in our course’s Mock Caldecott debate to conclude our semester of study:
Medal winner:
MY HEART by Corinna Luyken
Honor books:
FRY BREAD by Kevin Noble Maillard, illustrated by Juana Martinez-Neal
A BIG BED FOR LITTLE SNOW by Grace Lin
THE UNDEFEATED by Kwame Alexander, illustrated by Kadir Nelson
I was also delighted to contribute a post to the Horn Book’s Calling Caldecott blog in support of another gorgeous picture book: The Shortest Day by Susan Cooper, illustrated by Carson Ellis.
